Slacking Off Goes Mainstream!

We are aware that most you outdoorsy people might not watch a whole lot of the tube, but there's a pretty good chance that you tuned in to see Sketchy Andy in a toga bouncing on a line with Madonna.
For those of you watching the superbowl and said "that's siiiick, what the hell is he doing!?" - He was slacklining.

Andy Lewis, who goes by "SkAndy" is a professional slackliner. A slackline is a dynamic line, usually about 1" to 2" in width is suspended between two anchor points. The slackline "movement" started in the climbing community where most climbers would practice their balance and core work while off the wall.

Now, when you look at slackers they are high roping, ad backflipping and doing handstands and just going mad on these lines. It acts like verrryyyy narrow trampoline.

If you are interested in getting into slacklining, come on into the shop and ask about it. We carry Gibbon Slacklines (who sponsors Andy), and we have a few models; each with their own benefits.

 Slackline group, summer, 2010

We are also planning on re-starting up our slackline groups this summer. Once a week we'll meet at a location, slacklines in tow. If you are interested in trying before you buy, or just want to work on your own skills, you can tag along! Slacklines are a great way to keep in shape, while having fun - and they make a great backyard party activity.
